Requesting FReeper feedback. Thank you.
The big thing for many people is Office. For an Office alternative on both Windows, Mac, and Linux use Libre Office. it’s free, and it reads and writes Office file formats. It also works a little more simply so some people find it is more useful. Many countries have standardized on Libre Office so it also has a large backing.
For Drawing, Microsoft Visio has been replaced with Draw.IO. You can use Draw.IO online or download it to your local computer. It is MUCH better in my opinion than Visio and I do large scale systems and business diagrams using it.
I use Libre Office’s API to convert programmatically Excel Spreadsheets to a PDF.
“Almost 100% of web servers on the internet are now Linux”
Actually, that is a statement often repeated, but not true.
It is still pretty much a mix of everyone.
** Hey Hey Hey... are you trying to start a rumble here?!
I swear that some of you will need to be hosed down! **
Talking politics on this site is like wiffle ball. Want to start a brawl? Talk computers, pistol calibers or a list of best Rock songs of (pick your era). LOL!
Even my 32 bit and 64 bit computers won’t run my old dBase5 programs. I have to use DOSBox which is like a virtual box.
https://superuser.com/questions/908915/can-i-make-a-dosbox-like-in-virtual-box
There seem to be all sorts of things to get running in VirtualBoxes.
What matters is the software I write myself to make my life easier. I have lots of programs written in dBase5 to help me invest and keep track of my portfolio performance. The operating system is immaterial to me. It just runs in the background.
As for virus infested Windows OS, I have been doing all my banking, broker transactions and bill paying since Windows-95 came on the scene. Never had a virus problem yet. I use a separate computer to do financial transactions and another computer to surf the internet.
What Windows files are you referring to?
I base my supposition on the difference between the file structure systems, not the available software. Not perhaps the standard idea.
Thanks for all the pertinent advice and help, but just entered octogenarian period in my life, and just as soon not learn anything new if I can avoid it.
I stand corrected... Article as of 08.25.16 But I am sure it is higher now.
“Unix and Unix-like operating systems power about 67 percent of all web servers. At least half of those run Linuxand probably the vast majority.”

I do occasionally enjoy dragging out some old hardware, firing it up and playing with it.
Tech Ping
Nothing needs to be converted. All windows files like images documents videos Etc. Can be simply moved to and handled by Linux, they are all compatible. My first linux load was “Dual boot” or what Linux calls “alongside” over win 7. while booted in Linux I was able to go right in to the windows partition and drag and drop or copy and paste all my files from the windows folders over into the corresponding Linux folders, Pictures, Documents, Downloads, Videos, Music, Etc. The linux comes with the folders already labeled the same and ready to go. :)
“But I am sure it is higher now.”
Why would you say you are sure if you don’t actually know?
Just search for it. There is all kinds of tracking site out there.
Is that a sly way of implying that windows sucks?
Thanks to rockrr for the ping!!
Hey I finally got in before it hit 100....
> Is that a sly way of implying that windows sucks?
Nothing sly about it.
At what?
It all depends. Some things Linux does better, some things Windows does better.
It's like when somebody asks me, "What Kind of Computer Should I Get?"
I ask back: "What do you plan to do with it?"
