Got up early and caught the morning edition. Sorry if I jumped the gun. I would hate to be a spoilsport.

I futzed around until I recognized the author. Should have gotten it sooner.
To: nikos1121
Got on seriously wrong tracks first, but then the author’s name saved me.

I am not really that fast. I started doing these when I was recovering from hip replacement surgery, and taking painkillers. I actually timed myself using my computer’s stopwatch function, down to the tenth of a second. And posted my time.
Now I solve them at a leisurely fashion. Some are more challenging than others. Today I intuited RVS and RCJ, and the whole puzzle seemed obvious at that point.

Good hint, but too obvious for an old naval aviator

I was a little worried, but didn’t expect anyone would get it. Do you know the name of CVN-68?

Ooo, I lucked out guessing the two 3 letter words that both start with the same letter, and then I recognized the name. It went like a rocket ship!

That’s how I got it, too. Once you guess the first one, the other one follows, and as you said, the puzzle solves itself.
