Honestly, I am far more concerned about these systems being used to surveil, harass, oppress, and imprison American citizens than I am for any lost terrorist intelligence.

Exactly. Law abiding American citizens are subjected to surveillance while we just let anyone in the world waltz right in. Tyranny on the one hand, anarchy on the other.

I haven't seen the government using the powers of the patriot act and it's FISA court doing much besides serving political interests of the body politic. On one hand that's good, at least they are busy investigating themselves most of the time. On the other hand, if you find yourself in someone powerful's crosshairs, you're doomed.
Let's hope they stay busy spring on each other instead of we the people.
