House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed support for Los Angeles’s extension of stay-at-home orders for three more months and downplayed it as “inconvenient.”
“Well, of course, I agree with the decisions of the people on the ground in their particular venue and location,” the California Democrat said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe when asked about the news that Los Angeles would remain closed for three more months. “Because again, as Dr. Fauci said earlier, and I wish the president would listen to him, or hear him even, that you just cannot pretend it went away and go out there. So, yes, it’s inconvenient, but it’s even more inconvenient if you’re going to be infected, or worse. Or if you’re going to go out to work and bring something home to your family. I think that’s the biggest fear that all of us have is. What does it mean to the children and family members.”
Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said Tuesday during a Board of Supervisors meeting that stay-at-home orders will “with all certainty” be extended for the next three months.
“We are being guided by science and data that will safely move us forward along the road to recovery in a measured way - one that allows us to ensure that effective distancing and infection control measures are in place,” Ferrer said.

The idiot health director in my county said in front of the Board of Supervisors that we cannot open up until the basic reproduction number is below 1. Also, that conditions haven’t changed.
“Trying to choose between health and the economy is really a false choice. Because unless we make our community safer, and reassure everyone that it really is safe, and they and their family members and customers are not at risk, I don’t think that we’re going to see the [economic] results that we’d like,” Cody said.
She also warned that the pandemic was disproportionately sickening and causing deaths among communities of color, particularly among Latinos in Santa Clara County. “The only tool that we have at this moment to protect vulnerable communities,” she said, “is to bring down community transmission across the board.”
I have no idea what a basic reproduction number is or how they are able to accurately determine it, but it all sounds like made up bull$h!+ to me.
Meanwhile all the counties around me broke ranks yesterday and today. I guess they realized they need money because the new fiscal year starts soon.
If LA does not open because Garcetti wants to keep it closed throughout the summer although per capita LA has not been overly impacted by covid, Newsome needs to be told that the fiscal issues the city create will be the state’s fiscal issues not, the federal government. Any further Fed stimulus funds that Congress may vote will be proportionately reduced for those states and municipalities that do not open by a certain date and be awarded to state’s that have opened.
That is unpardonable and just plain stupid. Just like Dr Jill Biden... a PhD in Education. And everyone knows that the schools of education draw only the best and the brightest.
