Any wistful dream of a return to a traditional nuclear family as the norm will only last as long as $600 unemployment compensation covid windfall lasts.
Not true.
All the extra expenses of the second person working can often eat up any money they make, especially if child care is part of it.
There's extra money spent on work clothes, extra gas, babysitting or child care, often eating out as shopping and cooking at home time is limited. Lots of people by convenience foods instead of doing it themselves.
The local Wegmans is near some rather well to do communities the the overpriced convenience foods are abundant. You can buy packages of pre-sliced carrots and celery for example for far more than buying the carrots and celery yourself and cutting them up yourself.
I knew that I saved far more money by doing my own home-making, cooking, baking, etc, than if I worked and bought the stuff.
