A Sunday service showdown could be looming across the state this weekend.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot slammed President Donald Trumps calls on Friday for churches and other houses of worship to reopen, while Gov. J.B. Pritzker who has managed to fend off a series of legal challenges against his stay-at-home order said Illinois will continue to operate on the basis of science and data.
Lightfoot was more pointed in her criticism of Trump, who, during a hastily arranged White House press conference, said hed identified churches, synagogues and mosques as essential places that provide essential services and that he would override governors who dont abide by his request to open them.
The mayor called those remarks the latest in a long list of dangerous and foolish things the president has said.
The faith leaders that Ive talked to across the city recognize that they have to be smart about this, theyre worried about their parishioners, and we get that, Lightfoot said during a news conference announcing plans to cautiously reopen sectors of the city economy.
We are not going to rush to do something, so he can fulfill a campaign promise that sets peoples lives at risk.

Haven’t read this anywhere; it just makes sense.
That was in response to Peter’s saying that Jesus didn’t have to be sacrificed for his believers. I don’t remember it having anything to do with letting churches open again in the middle of a pandemic. Unless you think the parishioners are being sacrificed for the Constitution.
Conquering a pandemic requires that the threatened group act together as a group. That is why Pence and Trump have said “We’re all in this together,” the phrase that is loathed by those who want to make their own personal, selfish choices in the middle of a public threat.
Where’s the location of that Ripley’s show ?

We have. But we need a hell of a lot more of it.

Yes. the whole idea of the lockdown was to supposedly keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed. If the liquor stores closed the ICUs would be full of alcoholics in DTs leaving no room for covid patients
However that doesnt explain why pot shops are essential
