Woman placed on leave from work after viral Central Park video

The investment company that employs a white woman who went viral after calling the cops on a black man in Central Park on Monday has placed her on administrative leave.

“We take these matters very seriously, and we do not condone racism of any kind,” the company wrote.

“While we are in the process of investigating the situation, the employee involved has been put on administrative leave.”

The woman in the video was identified in reports as Amy Cooper. A screenshot of her LinkedIn account that was shared on Twitter identified her as the head of insurance investment solutions at Franklin Templeton.

Cooper later apologized for the incident in a phone interview with NBC New York.

“I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family,” she told the network. “It was unacceptable and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone who’s seen that video, everyone that’s been offended… everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do.”

The man who could be heard in the video, Christian Cooper, said he asked Amy to put the dog on a leash, and when she didn’t he offered the pooch a treat.

“The only way they can keep the dog from eating the treat is to put it on a leash,” he told NBC. “At some point, she decided I’m gonna play the race card, I guess.”

Amy told the network she felt threatened because she was unaware what the dog treats were made of.

Social media users also accused Amy of animal cruelty, as she was seen in the video grabbing and dragging the struggling dog by a neck harness.

Later Monday, Amy returned her adopted pooch to a local animal shelter.

So this guy deliberately approaches strangers in the park to learn-shame them. And he approached a woman who was wearing a mask outside in the paek. A recipe for disaster regardless of anybody’s color.

First, it’s surprising that she did not mace or pepper spray him. If she is convinced that she needs to wear a mask outside in the park, she needs more than six feet of social distancing space.

She also sounds like a cat person, not a dog person. Cats don’t need to be walked, so she could have avoided putting herself in what she considers a dangerous environment.

Making a racism thing out of this provides more evidence that the demand for white on black crime exceeds the supply.

Huh?
So, if you’re birdwatching in the park which has signs posted that “All Dogs must be on Leash”, and some yappy woman is too entitled to comply, by asking her to restrain her dog who is disturbing your bird watching you are in the wrong?

She was the one who brought race into it.

If she announces she’s a lesbian or proves service as a “Democrat activist”, the administrative leave will turn into paid work-from-home, and this will be memory-holed.

She is likely not all their in the head... but at least she did not hide and continue to blame others... taking ownership of ones actions is the first step in recovery.

He passive-aggressively trolled her. He was overjoyed when she reacted. He had finally hooked a fish. (How many times had he pulled this stunt before?) Yes she was hysterical there. He was filming and put this on twitter. My guess is she’’s a bit nutty in private life but very functional in her job.

So now she has almost lost her job. Her life is in ruins and this might push her over the edge. He is still for grinning for his courageous triumph over white oppression. Today this country sucks!

He gets 90% of blame
Woman gets 10%

Thanks! He trolled Central Park looking for someone to react so he could video and react. He said as much but not used the word trolled. IOW he often had words with owners of unleashed dogs....Boy he had his phone out and video rolling immediately.

This man with Christian as first name is a BS artist.

I think what we are seeing is the result of the hysteria whipped up by the never-ending propaganda about the severity of this virus, coupled with the hyper-lockdown conditions being foisted on people. There will be a psychological impact.

I think of this story and the one about the masked marauders chasing the unmasked woman out of the store in Staten Island (both stories taking place where the propaganda/lockdowns are in the extreme) and how they are instructive for would-be tyrants in terms of how this kind of event can be used to maximum effectiveness.

From the article: The man who could be heard in the video, Christian Cooper, said he asked Amy to put the dog on a leash, and when she didn’t he offered the pooch a treat.

“The only way they can keep the dog from eating the treat is to put it on a leash,” he told NBC. “At some point, she decided I’m gonna play the race card, I guess.”

The guy was carrying dog treats with him and "The only way they can keep the dog fro eating ...." That indicates a track record that he has done this before, and maybe makes a game of it. There's no innocent bystander here; just two people who should not get in close distance of each other.

Nope! He is/was the racist going around Central Park and looking for a fight. Looking to strike a blow against white oppression to get hits and fame on twitter. I believe he got 6 million hits. His sister posted it for him it seems.
BTW he is Harvard educated loony

He was a bird watcher. The Ramble is a big place for bird watchers (although it got very dangerous and unsavory for a number of years) and he was perfectly right to ask her to leash her dog.

My experience with these middle aged women and their unleashed dogs has been equally negative, even though I’m small and white. They scream obscenities at you and simply refuse to leash their dogs, even if the dog is threatening you.

They’re obsessed with their dogs. When my kids were little, I had one of these women yell at me that her dog was worth more than my three kids when I asked her to get the dog out of the sand box in the park where it was doing its business while growling at my kids. This was before cell phones, unfortunately.

Thank you for reading the article before commenting. FreeRepublic could use a symbol to precede each comment letting readers know if the commenter had read the article or not.

In the early days of FreeRepublic, many comments actually added worthwhile information to the article. Now I see “jokes” about the supposed tradition of not reading the articles. Too bad.

I have never heard the derogatory term “Karen” in my life, to be a sexist racial slur targetting upper middle class white women. Or something like that. I’m still not sure.

Other than that, the woman in the story sounds like a piece of work. Of course, all of us have our bad days and do stupid things, so who is to say how much this one event represents this woman’s typical attitude. I have no way of knowing and it is not right to judge her off one thing. Her employer did what he needed to do.
