Gov. Phil Murphy warned Thursday that it’s still too early for indoor businesses like gyms and salons to reopen as the coronavirus outbreak continues to slow in New Jersey.
Murphy was asked to respond to social media groups attempting to organize businesses for a coordinated defiance of the coronavirus closures on Monday, June 1.
“I would just say to folks: You’re playing with fire,” he said at his daily coronavirus briefing in Trenton.
“It has to be done the right way and at the right time,” Murphy added. “And I think we’re going to, if you bear with us over the next few days, we’ll give some more guidance on that."
The governor said to expect guidance on youth sports, outdoor dining, and small businesses in the next several days. But most of his focus to date has been on reopening outdoor activities like beaches, boardwalks, parks, ranges and fishing. Nonessential retail businesses have been allowed to reopen only for curbside pickup.
“We’ve got to be exceedingly careful on indoor, sedentary, lacking-ventilation, close-proximity realities,” Murphy said.
The lockdown orders have already been met with defiance by businesses and churches. Some have been issued summonses.

Barbers and hairstylist are all working from home anyway, who does he think he is protecting? It’s so hard to give up that power over people.
Why didn’t he follow what they are doing in Georgia that seems to be working.
I think these places are not the problem as a business can control who comes and goes and can limit people if done correctly. I think the problems are indoor social gatherings (e.g., parties, funerals etc.)

I live in New Jersey, luckily/unluckily in a town that is not hurting that much for business, and I am on the verge of trying to communicate with shop-owners who I know have not even been open for curbside pick up -—how can nail salons, barber shops, florists, gift shops do curbside pick-up. The task of hounding this bum out of office is a labor or Hercules that has at least as much of a chance as any to morph into something more like the Sisyphean myth. But THIS is the only fight right now worth fighting.
Unfortunately , NJ Governor race does not coincide with Presidential election years. If he runs again it will be in 2021. By that time the idiots in this state will vote for him again. The media is working 24/7 on his behalf.

The biggest fear of the lockdown tyrants is that all those who are defying the orders, especially the beach goers mixing unmasked, etc. will yield ZERO cases going forward, rolling it out 2,3,4,5 weeks. Their dearest wish was wanting to keep everyone locked down, then when the stats showed zero-to-very little infection rates, THEY and their lockdown mania could take credit for it.

BI am sorry for you. I served two years in Delran, NJ while working for my employer. Beautiful area, but most of the people do not like to say Good Morning or Hello.
