I actually got a Communist’s answer as to why they do this.

They consider it liberating the ideas for use by the people. That it is unfair for rich companies to profit from ideas that have often been in the public sphere for years. And that doesn’t include helping poor people afford nice things or more advanced technology.

Thus intellectual property theft is a moral obligation.
