Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced Friday his panel will hold a hearing on police use of force after the killing of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.

Graham said in a statement he’d spoken with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the committee’s ranking member, about the killing, which has resulted in days of protests and charges against one of the officers involved.

“Both of us are appalled at what we saw and believe it is important to have a hearing as soon as possible as to how to combat this outrage,” Graham said. “The Committee intends to call a wide variety of witnesses on the topics of better policing, addressing racial discrimination regarding the use of force, as well as building stronger bonds between communities and police.”

“We intend to shine a bright light on the problems associated with Mr. Floyd’s death, with the goal of finding a better way forward for our nation,” he added.

The announcement comes amid growing furor after video surfaced of a police officer kneeling on Floyd's neck during the arrest. Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was heard pleading for help and saying he couldn’t breathe for several minutes before dying.

The hearing can be good if he investigates Antifa and the people who fund it (Soros, etc).

But this guy is all talk. The hearing will never happen.

This is Graham’s “opportunity knocks” moment. This posturing, which in all likelihood will make it even more difficult for the police to do their jobs safely, is Graham’s moment to look decisive and endear himself to South Carolina’s voters.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates there are a little more than 5 million people living in South Carolina. The white population accounts for 68.5 percent of them, with 27.3 percent black and 5.7 percent Hispanic or Latino.

Isn’t the cop-killing still an ongoing investigation?

He always told us that excuse for no hearings regarding Russiagate.

The rule is to make it up as he’s go along.

Lindsey us out of his depth as chairman.

I think SC voters are seeing through him.

Hannity isn’t fooled. He’s part of the whitewash crew.

I don’t agree. I just think he’s kind of stupid. His relentless “99% of the FBI are great people!” nonsense is proof enough of that.

That rant is itself whitewash. Whitewash doesn't mean "exonerate," it's damage control, find a fall guy, then say 100% cured.

Hannity is a Gowdy apologist too. Hannity knows. Nobody is THAT stupid.

after the killing of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.

More spreading of the lie. The autopsy shows George Floyd was *not* killed by the police. He died in police custody, of massive heart failure, probably brought on by his violent resisting of the four police officers while they were attempting to put him into the police vehicle.

It was probably exacerbated by a massive drug dose, but we do not have the toxicology report yet.

All based on a video which can be interpreted in a way to see a police murder.

But videos can be deceptive, with many interpretations.

George Floyd was probably saying he could not breath, because his heart was giving out after years of abuse.

He almost certainly was in the process of a massive drug event.

But those things are hard to discern from a video.

How do you tell the difference from a police officer crushing the life out of an innocent man, and a police officer keeping control of a violent convicted felon, high on drugs, who just fought the police for several minutes, while being handcuffed?

You cannot easily tell the difference from watching an eight minute video without context.

The idea the officer was applying massive pressure to Georges neck has been put forward as absolute truth. The autopsy shows it is not true.

It almost certainly is an artifact of the video angle and the narrative pushed on everyone. It may look that way, but there are certain things in the video which demonstrate it is not true.

First, Floyd is able to talk most of the time. His airway is *not* restricted.

Second, he is resisting the officer for the first four minutes of the video, even though he is being held down.

Third, the amount of force required to hold him in place, with the technique being used (approved of by the use of force doctrine on the Minneapolis Police website), is very little.

If may look like a lot of force is being exerted, when, in fact, very little force is being exerted. The technique, itself, being used in the video, requires very little pressure.

The autopsy shows the pressure was applied did not cut off the blood supply or block the airway.
