Agreed. There is a chance that Trump might actually have to invoke the Insurrection Act. And if he does the Pentagon needs to be under the lead of a total team player.

Bad way to start a relationship but considering the track record that threat may be advised.

I too have thought Esper looks untrustworthy. I’ve learned to go with my gut or regret it. One of Trump’s problems though is Esper was the third candidate.

That Van Der Bijl fellow is currently working for the UK’s NHS. Before that, he was in intelligence.
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

— Ecclesiastes 8:10
There is no such thing as the left “owning” anything; letting them pull down the system is giving them exactly what they want.

“Though Esper did not specifically contradict the president”

The way I heard it, he did. Maybe technically, though; I don’t know.

Esper either resigns or President Trump must terminate him. If he thought that he had to say what he said, he should have resigned and then said it on his own dime. He should have never said it on our dime. There is no way he can undo what he did even if he wanted to. Obama purged our military of the real men who were real leaders. Esper must have listened to these flakes and the fakes that remain.

Read Article 4 Section 4 of the Constitution again.

Sure. If you want to commit mass political suicide, go ahead.

Restoring law and order according to the Constitution is “mass political suicide”? Restoring true voting is “mass political suicide”? Letting cities burn is an invitation to foreign powers to interfere militarily.

Neither are the same situations. Lebanon was a foreign intervention where we just showed up without any plan or purpose. Northern Ireland is a situation where the Brits are fighting against people who think N. Ireland is not British. If U.S. troops show up, they will be welcomed by the People who want the rioting stopped. We don’t allow U.S. citizens to be terrified.

“If U.S. troops show up, they will be welcomed by the People who want the rioting stopped.”

You are so effing wrong, I can only shake my head in despair.

Do you understand that the British troops were greeted in Northern Ireland by the Catholics in 1969 as their protectors?

The same happened in Beirut. The Marines were greeted as protectors.

And the same dynamic happened.

Roses on the way in, bombs on the way out.

It’s just pathetic that folks are still as naive as you.

The Dems destroyed their cities, they have to fix them.

Any outside force sent in “to save them” will take the blame for every stubbed toe or undelivered piece of mail from that day forward.

Yes. Active-duty military intervention in U.S. cities would be mass political suicide for Trump and the GOP.

Every act of violence from that day forward would be pinned squarely on Trump and the GOP.

The Rats destroyed their cities, the Rats have to fix them.

Soldiers with rifles can’t fix broken societies or broken people.

But they will be blamed 100% for every single act of violence, by anybody against anybody, from the day they arrive.

According to whom? Who would turn on Trump in a political sense that hasn’t turned on him already (and who he doesn’t need to get re-elected) if he used the military? Conservatives? Who would lose their heads enough to elect Biden?

Besides, you’re pursuing a nonsequitur and red herring; Trump is sticking with the National Guard.

The Democrats have no intention to “fix” their cities, since they are the ones that broke them in the first place. And with all due respect (since I feel I have to be so frank), you make it sound like you want to surrender in what is a civil war.

The Democrat pols in the cities that were burning made this mess, and they have to clean it up themselves.

And, as it happens, it appears that the local police and national guard were up to the task of putting this fire out, for the moment.

Today, in Los Angeles, the city council and mayor have proposed a significant cut to the LAPD budget, with the money directed at “community building”. The resolution has been posted here at FR, you can read it yourself.

Sending in the Army is pointless if the city is determined to let itself be destroyed. And the same coalition of liberal idiots who voted those people in need to either suffer the consequences, or see the light.

You are the one who doesn’t have a clue. The Americans and the Brits were outsiders. U.S. troops in U.S. cities would be welcomed BY LAW ABIDING AMERCIANS. Get a grip on your idiotic apples and oranges analogies.

So we're staring down the barrel of 1 million "protesters" in DC this weekend and this SOB Esper decides he going to openly break with the president on defending the Capitol and send the 82nd home?!?!??!!!

Who the hell does he think he is??

You are not going to get much support from Freepers for your advice to Trump to resist sending in troops to quell the rioting and looting.

But you are right. Stick to your position. The MSM is salivating over the hope for innocent civilian deaths at the hands of the military. And don’t let anyone tell you that there wouldn’t be civilian resistance to a military “occupation”. And political resistance. And MSM resistance.

I think the DEM mayors and governors will either let their police forces do their job and put down the resurrection or will give up and ask Trump to send in the National Guard. Could be either. But it will be one or the other.
