It’s a mistake to deploy active duty troops inside CONUS. Something will happen, and it will absolutely be pinned on the president.
Let the blue states burn.
And I say that from far behind enemy lines in California.
Who is going to “pin” anything on the POTUS? And what “something” will happen that already hasn’t happened elsewhere in the country?
Also, “(l)et(ting) the blue states burn” is a violation of the Guarantee Clause (Article 4 Section 4) of the Constitution.
What about the red states? We’re burning too.
“I say that from far...”
He can’t let them burn. POTUS. Told the govs and mayors to do it. They aren’t. Get it?
Saying is easy.
I agree...and I’m behind the same enemy lines with you.
National Guard troops were deployed in LA in full battle rattle in 1992. It wasn't that big a deal.
Currently, *Republicans* expect Trump to put down the riots and will blame him if the disorder continues. Longtime Trump supporters online are raging at his inaction and saying he doesn't deserve to be re-elected, because he is letting the Democrats (pols, rioters and looters alike) whale on them by destroying their property, life savings and jobs while standing aside. Think Katrina aftermath. Tell them about Posse Comitatus, and you'll draw a blank stare. My suspicion is the late response to the riots was a key factor in Bush Sr's 1992 defeat. And that lasted only 6 days. We are now in the 9th day of the George Floyd riots.
The Executive Branch has a Constitutional duty to put down insurrections.
If it doesn’t we can expect to have Congress appropriate several trillion more dollars to pay for the damage.

I tend to agree, BUT, I think the optics of this are on Trump’s side. The Governors dragged their feet on getting the NG out to support local authorities. The President is making it clear that looters and arsonists will not control the streets.
Personally I far prefer the Coeur D’Alene ID approach.
So far, every single deployment of troops to quell civil unrest in the history of this coubtry has worked.
You don’t have a point.
When there is out of control anarchy in the streets and the police are unable to handle it, someone has to take charge.
Shooting some of these looters and arsonists and killers is an excellent idea.

In other words, it is better to bring down death and destruction on innocent people for fear of adverse political optics.
How does that differ from Antifa or BLM?
