Defunding police will lead to Republican victory this year
The Hill ^ | 6/07/20 | Douglas Schoen

Posted on 06/07/2020 11:38:14 AM PDT by Libloather

In the wake of the death of George Floyd, protests have swept the nation, calling for overdue systemic reforms in law enforcement mechanisms. It is clear that immediate action must be taken to reform the police, given that inaction in the last half century has allowed racist and brutal measures to stand. However, the idea from Democrats to defund or abolish the police entirely is dangerous from any political and practical perspective.

If Democrats persist with this rhetoric about disbanding law enforcement in the midst of the pandemic and the protests, which have at times been violent or involved looting, then they will be playing right into the hands of President Trump and will increase his chances to win the election this year. Ultimately, calling to reduce the police will simply make people feel unsafe, insecure, and in my view less likely to vote for Democrats.

But some Democrats in Congress embrace this idea, including Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Ilhan Omar, who lambasted the police departments in New York and Minneapolis. While his latest leadership failures have forced moderate Republicans and a vast number of independents to move away from Trump, and potentially toward the Democrats, there is little support for defunding the police. This signals that if Democrats continue calling for this action, it could hurt them badly at the polls this November.

Gonna vote for the looting and rioting RATS? That seems to be the plan. Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza thinks so -

Defund fire departments too, because putting out fires started by “protesters” is rassis, y’all.

“... so people don’t have to be in the streets protesting ... in a global pandemic?”

Dang White Supremacists making the bruthas go out and loot in the middle of pandemic! Obviously, black folk can’t find their way off The Plantation, if they still be following the Massa’s orders.

Half will be spent on white social workers who will scurry back to their secure suburbs before dark. The other half will be spent on political hacks like Je$$e Jack$on and Al $harpton who will do nothing but rouse the rabble. No one's lives will be improved and a lot of innocent people will die just like every other time an area is depoliced.

Speaking of the Justice Brothers, we haven’t seen much of Al Sharpton or Jessa Jaxon. Wonder why they weren’t leading the riots?

It is clear that immediate action must be taken to reform the police, given that inaction in the last half century has allowed racist and brutal measures to stand.

Objection: Assuming facts not in evidence.

The only police departments needing reform are all in cities run by progressives. The rest of the country seems to be doing fine. Strange how that is.

If a black cop beats a black suspect is it racist?

This stuff is _so_ hard to figure out... ;-)

I thought about this as far as Los Angeles, but similar ideas in large cities.

With all of the protests/riots —a simple idea:
Starting with Los Angeles

PUBLICLY Introduce a measure to be voted on in the next voting ballot, similarly to the following:

When police need to be sent out to protests and riots require the Mayor and council person of the area where the action is to be picked up and taken to the back of the troops, where it is safe. Also, the Chief, commander of that area, Captains shall wear the same gear and be at the front of the lines to show leadership. When it becomes a riot, constantly ask guidance from those civilians mentioned above. Protective League should determine what troubled areas should have these leaders present.

A little tweaking on this, of course.

Who would PUBLICLY be against this requirement?

As for Sheriff similar plus “INVITE” the DA

If people actually know the Democrats are actually doing this, yes.

Just like nearly every Dem Senate candidate supported infanticide in the Senate - if people know this, they should be sunk. Does any near majority of the populace in say, Michigan or Minnesota support infanticide? I think not - those seats, and others, should be ours...if the voters know it.

Nearly all House Dem candidates voted to give the EITC to wealthy investors - if people know this, they should be sunk.

...calling for overdue systemic reforms in law enforcement mechanisms.

So, why haven't Democrats instituted these reforms it the jurisdictions that they have controlled for decades?

Byte me, these times are trying. When are the independent voters to going to wake up to the con jobs?

“When are the independent voters to going to wake up to the con jobs?”

When the Republicans, or whatever emerges after their demise, give them something to vote for.

I saw a report that Dems in Congress want reforms including improved training for cops.

Does this mean that cops have to be trained to avoid exercising callous disregard for human life while detaining suspects? Are they claiming that George Floyd died because the officer being charged with murder didn't receive adequate training?

Once again we see the progressives' lack of ability to connect cause with effect.

At one time years ago I was liberal enough to believe that people who committed crimes were crippled by defective personalities that did not permit them to choose proper behavior.

Since that time I have become convinced that there are simply evil people in the world and they should be dealt with accordingly. The officer killed Floyd because he is a brutal bully who chose to disregard Floyd's welfare to the extent of causing him to die.

Similarly, Floyd was a brutal bully who once invaded a home with his buddies and held a gun on an innocent woman with no regard for her welfare. Too bad for both of them that they met up that day.

Trump supporters can just sit back and watch these morons self destruct.

Voting Democrat is like handing the keys to a new Corvette to a 6-year-old.

What could go wrong?

Another question to add to list that Biden and Trump should be asked at the debates.

1. Do you support strong borders or open borders?
2. Do you support higher taxes on business or lower taxes?
3. Do you support free medical services for illegal aliens?
4. Do you support unlimited restrictions on abortion?
5. Do you support defunding the police or increasing police training and community policing practices to protect minority businesses and neighborhoods?

“However, the idea from Democrats to defund or abolish the police entirely is dangerous from any political and practical perspective.”

If they do that there won’t be many democrats left.... either through mutual annihilation and/or selecting wrong targets for crime. Hell, even Chicago (without fraud) might go republican.
