I don’t think I’ve watched more than 60 seconds of the show, but I do remember the gay community adopting the Sponge early on. I never knew if that was the original intent of the show’s writers, though.

Sponges reproduce asexually and by fragmentation. When I taught biology one of the kids favorite units was on genetic. They loved doing punnent squares using data I gave them on characters from Sponge Bob.
