NEW YORK (AP) — A never-before-heard solo version of the late Aretha Franklin’s riveting and powerful collaboration with Mary J. Blige about faith and race, 2006’s “Never Gonna Break My Faith,” has arrived on Juneteenth.

Sony’s RCA Records, RCA Inspiration and Legacy Recordings released the song Friday, aligning with the holiday celebrating the day in 1865 that all enslaved black people learned they had been freed from bondage.

My favorite Aretha Franklin song is Obama’s favorite; the one that says “R-S-P ... something ... something” because it’s such an American classic. She was such a great talent, as were the writers and musicians behind her. Obama botching R-E-S-P-E-C-T was just confirmation that he has never been an American.

Great song posting. Sorry I took the opportunity to rant. My YouTube pulled up a bunch of other good stuff too! Listening now.

Powerful words and amazing voice of emotion

Why was it held so long?

Made me sad for a time I know nothing about but, angry it existed...in America

I went back and listened to it for awhile again and can imagine doing so often.

“Why was it held so long?”
Wonder if they realized its quality and saved it for a moment in time that would resonate with the black community? Racial unrest? :/
