DJT owes Rand Paul bigtime for blocking Boton’s nomination as Sec State. He would have been another Tillerson only much more dangerous. Bolton is a disagreeable and unpleasant man but he has excellent permanent government connections so he could have mounted a very big and multilayered campaign against Trump when his boss would not implement his pet rock, war of a sort with Iran.

A few years ago I would have dismissed the ‘perpetual war for perpetual peace and dividends’ meme. No more. The Neo-cons (what is left of them) love interminable conflicts which are big enough to keep a good sized piece of the US military entangled in them. The neos argument's about the need for state building and expansion of ‘democracy’ by warfare all ring hollow. But the money to be made off of these endless engagements is great.
