I was saving this for the July Fiber Arts post - I love “old-fashioned: crochet & this is really pretty:

Crochet Pineapple Lace Shawl
https://thecrochetcrowd.com/crochet-pineapple-lace-shawl-pattern/

From the link, this is what Mikey says about it:

The Crochet Pineapple Lace Shawl is an old pattern that has resurfaced. Created originally for Bernat Handicrafter, it has come back using the Red Heart Croquette yarn. Bernat Handicrafter Thread has been discontinued.

I filmed the original video and the pattern is exactly the same. You can use the same video using 4 ‘puck’ size balls of yarn.

The video has a small change in the introduction but everything else is the same. I did sub the hook inside the video. For this size, the pattern states 2.75 mm / C hook.

Posting a day early because I remembered and did it WHEN I remembered, LOL! Also, I entered a crocheted afghan in our County Fair for September. Our fair is the last of the season, and they're going to have it, Covid or not! (We've only had a few cases county-wide, no deaths, not even a hospitalization and no nursing home incidents, either. Yay, Us!)

This afghan is called, 'Sky, Sea and Sand' and I used Caron Simply Soft yarn and a pattern called 'Spectrum' which I have used two other times to rave reviews. I'll post the pattern link below.

I have several pineapple shawl patterns, but this is the first one I’ve seen that isn’t triangular. I have one pattern I love but have never been able to master the beginning of, and each time, I give up in disgust and go find something else to crochet.

THIS one may be the one I finish! Thanks!

I like to use up my stash (donated yarn and leftover yarn) by making baby clothes. Almost all small quantities are enough to make a little pair of socks and you can even use two different yarns. A little more of a leftover and you can make a little hat or a bolero jacket or something.

I've made a half dozen matched sets of little cowboy hats, boots and diaper covers that I donated to the local Pregnancy Care Center.

I made the first set for a friend's first grandchild and then I just couldn't stop, they were so cute and I am on a mission to use up the stash before I die.

You will be able to do this one, I’m sure! I watched the first part of the video (first couple of rows) and Mikey is an EXCELLENT teacher. He makes it really clear as to what you’re doing on each row ... then you just repeat.

I skipped to the end to see how the shawl is finished off & that is “easy” as well. The only issue I have is that the last row is not finished off (only finishing on 3 sides) .... I am sort of obsessed with things being equal, even, etc. For example, I cannot part my hair on the side ... has to be in the middle. That being said, I would likely find a way to finish off that 4th side somehow - just my “quirkiness”!

Good luck if you give it a try.

Although now I am distracted by knitting an “old shale” afghan in shades of grey and black for the youngest for Christmas.

The last few years, I have been doing crocheted ornaments as gifts, but I really am trying to accelerate the stash reduction, so I am doing this pattern.

I was about to get going on a very complex doily to enter in a county fair in about 2 months & just found out the fair has been cancelled for this year - BUMMER!!

Here’s a link to a picture of the doily (trying to find a non-Ravelry link) .... it’s from the book Absolutely Gorgeous Doilies by Patricia Kristofferson & it’s #10 Pineapple Song.

https://exquisitecrochetdainties.blogspot.com/2010/11/pineapple-song-tadaa.html

I have the book & have crocheted several of the other doilies, but none as “intense” as this one.

Your afghan is really pretty - I love the colorway - blue ribbon for you!!

I usually incorporate that hard-to-finish side edge with a picot finish, or a dc V-stitch with a picot in the center. It always brings the entire thing together with a delicate look. I have about a dozen shawls, different patterns, yarns and colors because I don’t want to spend the money for a winter dress coat.

Going to church, a coat is far too bulky, so shawls are what I use! ;o]

Thanks! There’s one tiny flaw in one stitch due to the yarn, but I didn’t catch it until it was too late.

I hope they don’t see it. Otherwise, it turned out perfectly - and hardly ANY cat hair in it, LOL!

(I’ll go over it again before I take it to the fair!)

Due to an engagement this past 4th of July (”fireworks” of the best kind!), there will be a wedding in mid-September. It can still be very hot/humid here ... or maybe even a little cool. It could be warm during the day, much cooler at night - very fickle weather that time of year. Fingers crossed there are no hurricane remnants passing through (outdoor wedding). No idea what time of day the wedding will be, but I expect the after-party will go well into the evening (it's a particularly happy/welcome wedding plus a 'party hearty' bunch, but all really good people).

So, what to wear. Currently, I have a simple sheath dress that I can now get into after losing a bunch of weight. I have some shawl options to dress it up, but keeping a shawl on can be problematic (especially while ‘tripping the light fantastic’ after a couple of beers ... or glasses of wine). Then again, it could be "shawl? what shawl? I was wearing a shawl?" Assuming I decide to maintain some sense of decorum, other options to a shawl might be a good idea.

I just happened to see a shrug pattern ... not a bad idea although generally, I'm not a shrug fan. That shrug led me to another pattern. I don't know if I'll make them (or maybe I'll just buy a new dress), but I figured with cooler weather a few months ahead, they'd be a good share on the FAT (Fiber Arts Thread). :-)

First one I saw:

Second one - much more 'open'/lacy:

Oh, pretty! A shrug would be a perfect solution. :)
