She actually did a lot of her own work. She even broke a wrist doing one stunt. But they were simple then and her looks were what was going to sell the movie. But even they weren’t enough.

Years later, listening to talk radio, a caller asked a guest tv guy why the derby wasn't on tv.
He said the demo that watched it didn't have any disposable income, so it couldn't draw advertisers, compared to say golf, with appeals to a small demo with lots of disposable income. The derby couldn't draw people with disposable income with Raquel either.
(Some time in the 1990s, I happened across a relaunch of derby watching a UHF channel late night. The track was a figure 8, maybe with a jump. The half-time entertainment was Blondie, so I stuck around to see her perform. Don't remember watching any more epis.)
