We randomized 115 children to trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) or placebo. Over the following 9 months, TIV recipients had an increased risk of virologically-confirmed non-influenza infections (relative risk: 4.40; 95% confidence interval: 1.31-14.8). Being protected against influenza, TIV recipients may lack temporary non-specific immunity that protected against other respiratory viruses.

Influenza vaccination is effective in preventing influenza virus infection and associated morbidity among school-aged children [1, 2]. The potential for temporary nonspecific immunity between respiratory viruses after an infection and consequent interference at the population level between epidemics of these viruses has been hypothesized, with limited empirical evidence to date, mainly from ecological studies [3–15]. We investigated the incidence of acute upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) associated with virologically confirmed respiratory virus infections in a randomized controlled trial of influenza vaccination.

According to news about coronavirus vaccine trials, by the way, they’ve worked perfectly so far. Final trial reports will be out on some of the vaccines very soon, and manufacturing and distribution are already being set up.

Wasn't the purpose of this 2009 study - it was to see if being protected from the Flu could increase the chances of not being as well-defended against other respiratory diseases/bugs.

They concluded it did make one more susceptible and say it could have "implications" with Covid too.

The keyword here is: The potential for temporary nonspecific immunity. The word potential means possible, not guarantee to happen.

I have a potential to get hit by a car crossing the street during the time period of crossing the street, does that stop me from crossing the street.

This study and the military study are often cited by Anti-vaccine activists. Those studies are not proven yet. The temporary period to susceptible to catching a cold is very short. A cold is very easy to catch, did the person catch the cold at the flu shot location (maybe the chair the person sat in after a person with a cold just sat, waiting for their turn) where people go to get medical treatments. A lot of variables.

If you read the last sentence in the Results:
"There was no statistically significant difference in the risk of ARI or FARI between participants who received TIV and those who received placebo, either during winter or summer 2009 "

The study had the same results for people who received the flu shot and the people who received the placebo. Maybe the caught it from the chair they sat in waiting for the flu shot or placebo shot.

The researchers need more studies to confirm this very low chance of catching a cold when you get a flu shot.

Where did you find the statement more susceptible.
