Detroit Police Chief James Craig joined "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Tuesday to discuss why the city has been spared the violent protests happening in other urban centers across the U.S.
"We don't retreat here in Detroit. We're just not gonna do it," Craig told host Tucker Carlson. "You saw the images ... of streets where there was lawlessness, looting, burning. No sign of police officers. We weren't giving up ground to the radicals. We just didn't do it."
While Detroit has avoided major unrest, Portland has been gripped by nightly demonstrations and riots for more than two months while rejecting offers of federal assistance from President Trump.
In apparent contrast to Portland, Craig told Carlson, citizens of Detroit are "fed up with these radical protests."
"I'm not to talking about these peaceful protests ... [I mean] these misguided radicals that have tried to incite violence in our city," the chief said. "They said, 'We're not going to put up with it.' And so we got a couple of things. We got a great police department, great leadership, but we have a community that stands with us and said, 'enough is enough.'"

Maybe not enough white people in Detroit to lead the BLM mob.
Awhile back I recall reading about the local “neighborhood watch” groups that formed up in Detroit. Not just looking out one’s windows, but actively walking the sidewalks at night.
IIRC the police would find a body once-in-awhile that would turn out to be some known punk criminal.
That is the situation in Newark NJ; also, it was easy for the mayor to reach out to the agitators and point out that since the last riots more than half a century ago, most working people and employers had left - they couldn’t chase away the few that remained.
Thanks for posting. HOORAY James Craig!
Ive noticed that riots today are almost non-existent in sh!t-hole cities that have already been burned to the ground in the 1960s. One big reason for this is that predominantly black police forces in cities with corrupt black government officials can slaughter rioters without facing so much as a peep of outrage from the media or the legal system.
My thought exactly. Why would blight and empty lots be worth defending or even attacking?
The mayors and police departments nipped the insanity in the bud in my region.
Our local thugs started moving in these violent directions but our police (with backing of the mayor) told thugs to to ‘disperse’ BEFORE IT WENT TOO FAR - - and when they didn’t, they were arrested.
That was it. Over before it started - the flame of ignorance and hate didn’t spread.
Police in democrat hellholes could have stopped this too - they have the skill and training - but democrat hellhole mayors wanted the violence...
Because most people are armed in Detroit, some heavily. You try that crap in “The D” you will get a cap in yo azz.

LOL!
There was a program a few year ago that allowed people to purchase a rundown house in Detroit for $1. In return, they had to commit to living there for a year and to fixing the place up. I really wanted to do it at the time; I actually had family in Detroit.
Can’t remember why I didn’t invest. I guess my husband didn’t want me to move away for a year.
Anyway, funny story: My great-great grandfather on my Dad’s side had immigrated from Czechoslovakia with his brothers. They got into some huge fight, and my grandfather’s brothers stopped in Detroit. My grandfather continued on to Chicago.
It really is interesting, to learn about your family tree. A couple of years ago, I went to ancestry.com. I’m telling you, that place is as addictive as crack cocaine must be. You just can’t stop. There’s always a new green leaf to follow. LOL!
E. Michigan is definitely like that.
W. and N. Michigan is also like that because there are so many guns used for sporting purposes.
It’s a weird “balance to the force” thing we have here that has kept it quiet.
Ive been on the road for work for the last 3 years, and the Covid shut down our program out in L.A. ,and have been home since March.
Mayor Dugan, and Police Chief Craig have done a fantastic job.
Every Uber Driver mentions that I need to get Downtown and see the changes.
That is more likely it. Its 80% black. There is no one for BLM to blame.
“”Our mayor stands with this police chief, stands with this police department...”
Great combination there...a police chief willing to kick butt and a Mayor that backs him up.
That’s what I told my wife.
The changes to downtown Detroit are amazing. Havent been since the lockdown. Im sure its a ghost town again, but with the blight removed this time.
“There was a program a few year ago that allowed people to purchase a rundown house in Detroit for $1.”
There was an HGTV series a few years back, forget the name, but the rehab lady who was the lead on the program bought a house in Detroit under that program. I was thinking at the time...she’s crazy. She did a great job on the house. She also took a vacant lot on the block and converted it to a community garden. There were a lot of neighbors tending their little sub-plots...kind of neat. I don’t know what eventually became of the house...would love to know.
I watched another program about Detroit folks starting little restaurants out of their homes and even on vacant lots around the town. Some as basic as throwing up a cabana/tent outside and cooking at a grill. Another might be meals IN THE PERSON’S HOUSE with the menu changing every night, reservations-only seating. Another was a genuine restaurant but only seated 12-15 people. The show may’ve been Diners, Dives & Drive-Ins, not sure. But it was fascinating...the people working hard to bring Detroit back.
Detroit learned their lesson in 1967 with some help from the 82d Airborne Division.
