Pardon me for being one of the selfish ones. I don't wear a mask unless I'm in a medical facility, sick, or around fragile friends. I believe it is vital that we all, if allowed by our betters, to NOT wear them any chance we can. I believe we must do this to save our society, to smile at one another, to greet acquaintances and say hello to strangers in public.
Here's why.
No matter what happens on the medical front, a good share of our society will be reluctant to take them off. Masks are becoming like our vehicles - like grills on pickups, masks are a representation of us. Most of us have experienced the intimidation of having a large truck with a menacing-looking grill six inches from our rear bumper. The driver would likely never act like this in person, but the vehicle gives him the anonymity to do so. And masks have the same potential. Don't you already notice what others are wearing and how they're wearing it? My concern is that more and more, this becomes our avatar.
Similar to smoking and nuclear power, now we are paranoid about something we can't see and could be lurking around any corner. You want clean air right? Well, guess what - everybody else in the world is now a 'smoker', spewing out viruses all over the place. Even worse, they can't quit! Maybe they got a test and 'quit' last week - but they could be infected now, so there's no safe level.
Again, speaking only for me, I notice how others are I see in public are 'non-people'. There are no more smiling faces, I don't see attractive women anymore and I can't tell if my jokes at the checkout fall flat - everyone looks pretty much the same now, and the feeling of warmth that you get from a smile is gone.
I've never posted a vanity before, but I'm interested in the thoughts of others on this. Is there a way out back to normal?
Masgarade... That is a word Ive never seen before.
Re~sist.
I’m not a big fan of vanity posts, but I read yours in total agreement.
The only time I have worn a mask since this debacle started was on a couple visits to our local VA clinic.
With Publix, Winn-Dixie and other grocers now requiring masks, I guess I may have to get my groceries shipped in.
But masks are a frightening symbol of creeping totalitarianism. I must stand on my principles.
Children are twice as likely to die from the seasonal flu. Are we going to have to wear masks for the children? If it is that dangerous that masks are permanent it is time to find a new place to live.
I have no idea how we get back to being normal humans again because so many wear their shackles of fear so willingly.
I refuse to wear the face condom!
It’s not a mask it’s a muzzle.
Masgarade... Dang it, it passed spell check, I swear! :)
They may “require” a mask. But, I don’t wear masks. NO ONE has challenged me on that.
I dont wear it unless I have to.
Medical appointments are one area.
Sometimes grocery stores.
When I meet with someone I have my mask and ask them if theyd prefer I wear it and tell them that I dont care, Im not sick, and I am not worried about the virus.
I prefer maskcharade
The song was written by Leon Russell. His version is pretty cool. Benson’s is better.
The Carpenters also covered it.
Someone with talent needs to rewrite the words and re-record a parody version.
I try to be thoughtful and stay away from stores during busy hours. The ‘official’ word is to wear a face covering if you can’t social distance. I don’t mind that. But when I see people on an open bicycle trail with a mask on, I just laugh.
I had a diarama of a masgarade
