Not sure why you would reference COBOL like that. A COBOL program dies if there is even one misplaced period ... and even a small COBOL program has many ‘dots’.

That is my point. The compiler frequently gets very agitated if you leave out one small dot.

We all know the COBOL Credo: “Miss a period and you are in trouble.”

I don’t know about you, but I started on COBOL 68 — no “end if.” COBOL 74 was a Godsend!
