A new Knight Foundation-College Pulse survey out this month shows one in five black male college students said if the election were held today, they would be casting their vote for President Donald Trump.
The poll, conducted Aug. 9-12 and interviewed 4,000 undergraduates in full-time four-year programs at American universities, revealed Trumps support among black male students is virtually the same among white female college students where 20 percent reported being in favor of Trump with a +/-2 percent margin of error.
Trumps support among female black students however, is practically absent at 2 percent, within the margin of error for zero and is unlikely to bounce following former Vice President Joe Bidens pick of a black woman, California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate. On the other hand, Trumps relatively high support among black male college students likely comes in part from the Republican administrations restoration of funding for Historically Black Colleges.
While the Knight Foundation survey is narrowed in scope to current college students enrolled in four-year programs, the results provide a glimpse into Trumps support among the next generation of voters that possesses implications for November and future elections.
While Democrats embrace the latest signature call from the contemporary civil rights movement of Black Lives Matter to defund the police, a Gallup poll conducted in late July shows 81 percent of black Americans actually want the same amount or more law enforcement protection in their communities, not less. Democrats in Minneapolis however, voted unanimously to disband the citys police department in June. In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio slashed the departments budget by $1 billion even as crime skyrockets in the city. On the West Coast, Seattles first black female police chief resigned when the city voted to cut department funding and dock her pay 40 percent.
This was a difficult decision for me, but when its time, its time, said Chief Carmen Best.
Trump however, remains deeply underwater with black voters overall, which have historically been a key voting bloc for the Democratic Party for the last five decades. A Washington Post-Ispos poll showed 92 percent of black Americans reported their support for Biden over Trump in a June survey. In 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the black vote with 88 percent to Trumps 8.
And 80% demand 9 quadrillion bucks...
And they will vote.
Why did you go to college?
To get and education.
Anything else.
Yes, to get a job upon graduation.
Who will you vote for?
Increasing in the black vote, but losing in the Karen vote.
Black men can be reasoned with, I have found. Most I talk to (alone) will show admiration for Trump. But Black FEMALES? Absolute lunatics!
something is massively wrong with all the polls this year.. more than usual. Maybe it’s covid and the lockdowns, I don’t know. All I know is.. poll after poll shows Trump with MASSIVE black support (for a Republican) and yet.. Trump trails consistently in nearly all polls.. both of those CANT be true, unless Trump has lost MASSIVE support among whites, which is hard to believe.
Screw them. If those 20% of black college students vote for Trump, I am welcoming them with open arms.
Let’s get an army of black conservatives like Candace Owen!
This is a decisive demographic. Two or three percentage point shifts toward the R candidate can make a massive difference. The black vote is typically 95% for the D candidate. If Biden is only at 92%, he is sunk.
Increasing in the black vote, but losing in the Karen vote.
That is exactly what needs to happen and it will happen as the black vote as a total percentage of the population will increase to record numbers and that is great news for Trump.
Trump, like John Wayne, is very Alpha, and that is something that a lot of guys naturally respect.
Black men don’t back down from a fight. Neither does Trump. Democrats know this. They know it and they’re scared.
Thats nearly double the overall average black support historically... but I have no idea how that compares historically to just black college students.
I believe Trump will outperform his 16 numbers among blacks but color me skeptical that he is going to break through with blacks and set support records.
Dont get me wrong id love to see it happen, but I am just seeing nothing on the ground that makes me believe Trump is going to astonish the world and break the Democrats lock on black votes.
Hell the best any GOP has done in modern era was Reagan first term. Even though he vastly improved the economy for all Americans between 80 and 84 his support among blacks dropped significantly between 80 as 84.
Uh oh....
I think college men of all races get tired of all the indoctrination and focus on race and victimization. My white college young adult male children got tired of all the propaganda. Perhaps black college young men do too.
One and five, or 20%, is far above the normal black vote that Republicans receive. Why does the headline say only one and five?
Yes, black females are just hopeless and irredeemable.
That noise you heard? The sound of liberal minds exploding!!!
That’s like a vast majority right?
