That is a brand new method of counting such deaths, and is extremely misleading for comparison to prior epidemics. Those rules were used to justify the lockdowns.
It means deaths above the normal average overall total for the year or whatever period. That is, if in one year in your city, say 5,000 people generally die, of whatever cause, but this year, 6,000 people die, this thousand would be “excess deaths.’ So if there’s 1,000 excess deaths and a virus circulating, it could be assumed that the virus has caused the rise in the number of deaths.
My reading of this CDC report is that 6% of the death total is attributable to ONLY Covid-19. The other cases had comorbidities which contributed to the death. While it is true that if Covid-19 was present, then people were jumping to the conclusion that Covid-19 was the underlying cause of death, which inflates the Covid-19 death rate. There really is some gray area here.
From this report, it is unwarranted to say that the CDC is changing their story with these graphs. They are simply trying to explain the effects of comorbidity.

Yes, I think it kind of depends.
My husband had an employee who has basically quit now because of COVID. The prospect is grim.
He has cystic Fibrosis - and that is very deadly.
Last year, he was considered almost dead and needing lung transplant because of a collapsed lung. But they rectified it successfully.
Considering those 2 issues, if God forbid something really does happen to him, should we consider it COVID or was it really his underlying condition?

Probably has to do with the investigation into nursing home deaths in Dem states. Need to reduce the overall death rate so that 4 Dem governors don’t end up in prison for murder.
