Something happened here today, and I thought it might be useful to start a thread on individuals' experiences with mail-in voting.
We received information in the mail today about how to receive a mail-in ballot. The return address indicates that the letters were sent by our County Board of Elections.
However, we also received an extra one - for a man who lived here before we did, and whose mail we've received before.
The problem is, we've been here almost 14 years; he's been gone at least that long, if not longer.
I was pleased to see that I have to actually REQUEST a mail-in ballot - I was afraid that they were just going to send them out willy-nilly to every registered voter.
But why did I receive one for a long-gone former tenant? From what rolls are they taking these names and addresses? If they are taking them from 'registered voter' records, how often do they update those?
I would like to see posted others' similar experiences with this whole new 'system' - especially if you live in Maryland.
(We actually intend to vote in person. There has been some indication that we may have to do that at another location than our usual community one, but the last we heard, the plans were still to make it possible to do so.)

Mine went into the garbage. I always vote in-person. Always.
My wife and i, in Michigan each recieved one. They are in my safe, we will vote in person.
I will be showing up in person to vote.
I’m in Hennepin County, Minneapolistan, and yesterday I got two absentee ballot applications that were sent to Or Current Resident. They came from Common Sense Voters of America in Washington, DC.
I will be crawling through broken glass to vote in person.
Did you receive actual ballots, or applications to request a ballot?
You raise another question. What mechanism will stop a person from voting twice? You seem to imply that you have your ballot in a safe but will go to vote in person. What’s to stop you from mailing the ballot in as well?
we recieved an application actually. But the point for us was to not let some one else claim our vote thru fraud. So we vote, if we are told we aleady voted by mail, i have proof of fraud.

I’ve received two addressed to my mother “or current resident”.
Mom passed ten years ago.
One can only assume they are mailing applications to ALL registered voters, both active and inactive. One can infer that the prior resident has not registered elsewhere in your state or county or that your jurisdiction is negligent in updating records.
Mrs. jimfree and I have received absentee applications that were to be sent to ALL voters. We have not received one for the prior owner who moved 34 years ago.
I expect to update you in the coming days as to how many of these ‘applications’ are thrown on the floor underneath the mailboxes, when the people in my building realize they’ve been sent mail for someone else. (That’s what usually happens when people here get mail for those who have moved out.)
I wonder what will happen to those?
I’m trying to decide what to do with this stranger’s application. I’ve always just marked his mail ‘Return to Sender; Addressee Unknown’, and stuck it back in the post box. But if I write real small, maybe there’s also room for a rant on the outside of the envelope...

When filling the form out I mistakenly made a mark in the wrong box. My ballot was torn up and I had to sign a different list before getting another ballot.
There was a caller who phoned in to Chris Plante the other day. He was from Romania. They used to vote by mail. The dictator would get 100% of the vote according to the caller. That, eventually, didn’t end well for he and his wife.
In my state, as far as I am aware, you have to vote in every general election - at least every 4 years - to remain registered. If you voted in the last general, you get a new voter card prior to the next one. If you didn’t, you don’t.
I’ve never been in the ‘didn’t-don’t’ position, but I’ve assumed that if one doesn’t get a new voter card every four years, they CAN’T vote.
And it seems to me that people who don’t vote or re-register should be dropped from the rolls (?)

I just know that for decades I’ve voted in every general election; and every four years, prior to the general, I get a new voter card in the mail. When we’ve moved, we’ve had to update our address.
(I’m not permitted to vote in primaries in my state, because I have always been what they now call here an ‘unaffiliated’ voter.)
I got one, mailed from the ML King center or something. Has the box to check for the primary as well, which was almost a month ago.

I received the applications for my wife, myself and our four kids - only one of which is still living with us. We all vote in person. We all are voting Trump.
