As far as I have last heard, it is still sitting at 0 percent. I agree that there is very little firefighting going on. I haven’t heard about any CalFire planes or helicopters doing water or retardant drops. This monster is creating its own wind and weather. It is creating lightning and fire tornados. The smoke is so heavy that they cannot safely fly.
That is why they are still working on getting trapped people to safety. I heard that the Mammoth Pools helicopter rescue team was told to divert for the second landing due to smoke and wind. They decided to go for it anyway. And then they overloaded the helicopter so that they did not leave anyone behind. I am very sure those people on that flight knew that everyone on that team was a hero.
The ground crews are so busy trying to get people, pets, and animals safely out. That is and needs to be their priority.
I did hear that parts of Yosemite National Park, including Wawona area are now on pre-evacuation status.
I know the state is overtaxed on firefighting right now, but this seems like the most dangerous fire right now. Is it over 140k acres and 0% containment. I just worry the later inroads are made, the harder it will be to control.
