Nope. It circles around Canopus(Alpha Carina). Earth was destroyed during the Butlerian Jihad.

In all honesty, Lynch's Dune is one of my favorites.

Maybe I’ll give it a second chance, because I generally like David Lynch’s stuff.

The Dune books are very dense iand adopting them to a movie format is a huge challenge but it can be done. Peter Jackson proved by turning Tolkien’s books into great movies that no book is out of reach.

How about because it has begun to bore.

I wish I could get past that. I just grit my teeth over details like that.

Liet Kynes was sort of a minor character. Small consolation, I know.

So, what did you think of “The Last Temptation of Christ”? :D

I understand they are making a movie about the book of acts, but Paul will be played by Halle Berry and renamed “Pauline”, and Peter will be called Pat, and played by Ellen Degeneres.

It should be a fun romp through the Holy Land.

Well, Hollywood would like it.

Oh yeah. I remember. That was a sad day. I lost almost everything.

Changing Liet Kynes from a white man to a black woman has to change important aspects of the family of Paul Atreides.

Is “Chani” still the daughter of Liet Kynes? (Chani is Paul Atreides concubine and from whom Leto II is born).

Changing “race” is one thing for a character, but changing gender does more to change relationships.

My thoughts exactly.

I’ll give it a chance. Only because I loved the books as a teenager. The 1980s movie was a mess.

I don’t care for movies made from very popular novels much, when the movies don’t stay true to the novel. In my Sci Fi reading days, I read and still have all the Dune books, in hard copy and paperback.

I am not familiar with what part of the Dunne history this new movie is to be about.

Excellent point - there are plenty of women with huge roles in the Dune story, it's almost like the film makers didn't read the book.

Do you know if actors get residuals whenever “their” movie is played/disk mailed through Netflix? Anyone?

Like Netflix turning King Arthur into a black man. Immediate turnoff. It doesn’t even make any sense.

Dang. I know. But I have a memory of the book, so it is, but...it rings a darn bell in my head, darn it.
