“We also note that in the publication of the chimeric virus SHC015-MA15 in 2015, the attribution of funding of Zhengli Shi by the NIAID was initially left out. It was reinstated in the publication in 2016 in a corrigendum, perhaps afterthe meeting in January 2016 to reinstate NIH funding for gain-of-function research on viruses. This is an unusual scientific behavior, which needs an explanation for”

Gain of function and it looks like we funded it.

According to the Diegin article I referred to previously, Shi Zhengli (?) and a Prof. Baric of North Carolina worked together on this research. For some reason Baric discontinued the collaboration on gain-of-function BUT Dr. Fauci (yes, that Dr. Fauci) reinstated USGvt funding for the Wuhan lab research. One wonders what made Prof. Baric withdraw his collaboration with gain-of-function research with Dr. Zhengli.
This Li-Meng article notes that "the animal reservoir could not be bats because the ACE2 proteins in bats are not homologous enough to hACE2 (human ACE2)." I have been citing my early source that bats do not have or utilize the ACE2 enzyme. One of these two sources is incorrect or I ran off the rails along the line. 😯 Still, it questions 'wet market' bats as a source for CoViD-19.
