He did, quite on purpose. That way, when the lugenpresse jumps all over themselves again to prove "OMG Drumpf lied!", EVERYONE gets to see the original. And the original is shameless, poorly-thought-out pandering to an underflow crowd. And the lyrics to the original, translated, say
