With the advent of computers, kids teach themselves to type before they go to school. Word programs automatically center and set margins.

I took the last typing class my high school offered in 89.

Word Processing was coming the next year.

I had a very good teacher.

I took typing in 10th grade. Served me well in later classes and in college. Touch typing at speed is a good skill.

On handwriting... My dad, b.1909, learned the Palmer method of cursive writing. Even in his late 70s he had beautiful, legible handwriting.

Personally, I find it difficult to understand how someone can graduate from HS and not even write in cursive.
