When Sayers was a Bear, the team got killed. There was no office except for Sayers. And he paid the price time and time again. He was great. He had a great attitude. But he did not have a team that could protect him. So he just kept getting hit. In his day it was quite brutal.

For guys like me, it is sobering to see the stars of our youth pass away. It's a reminder of our mortality and it will be our turn sooner than we think. Yes. I particularly notice it in baseball. Players whose careers I followed throughout their playing days are now managing. Or passing away like Tom Seaver and Lou Brock recently. Tempis fugit.
