Veterans, gamers, history buffs and gun enthusiasts are shelling out to take part in military simulations.

In February, a group of several hundred military enthusiasts gathered to play-fight in Clovis, Calif., at the foot of the Sierra Nevada.

They had come for an event called the Road to Kharkiv, a simulation of a fictional NATO mission into Eastern Ukraine, hosted by a company called MilSim West. Not a fan of Airsoft. Stupidity should hurt, and you just don’t get that in Airsoft. Paintball is where it’s at for me. My oldest son and I play a lot. We travel to PA every year for the Invasion of Normandy game at Skirmish. 5,000 screaming paintballers from all over the world. It’s awesome. We’ve been on both the Allied and Axis sides. Canceled this year because of WuFlu. Pretty bummed about it, but our local field is hosting several excellent scenarios this year.

They hate this because it’s bringing more and more young men into the real gun culture. They shoot Glocks and AR’s in video games, and then they want to own them in real life. Good. They should.
