(CNN) New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo argued that nursing homes "never needed" to accept Covid-positive patients from hospitals in the state.
During a press call Wednesday, Finger Lakes News Radio asked Cuomo about his administration's advisory in late March requiring that nursing homes accept the readmission of patients from hospitals, even if they were positive for Covid-19.
Cuomo argued that the advisory was a precaution if hospitals became overwhelmed -- calling it an "anticipatory rule" -- which he said didn't happen.
"We never needed nursing home beds because we always had hospital beds," Cuomo told Finger Lakes News. "So it just never happened in New York where we needed to say to a nursing home, 'We need you to take this person even though they're Covid-positive.' It never happened."
Facts First: Cuomo's assertion that "it never happened" is false. According to a report from the New York State Department of Health, "6,326 COVID-positive residents were admitted to [nursing home] facilities" following Cuomo's mandate that nursing homes accept the readmission of Covid-positive patients from hospitals. Whether or not this was "needed," it did in fact happen.

Cuomo needs to explain that if he never sent COVID positive patients into nursing homes, then why, after thousands of senior citizens died, he issued a new executive order which was a 180 degree turn on his original executive order.
Andy Cuomo’s incompetence killed thousands, I guess he was trying to one (thousand) up Ted kennedy.
This mass murderer is overdue for criminal charges.
massive liar and murderer
son of sam? no, New York’s most prolific serial killer is the son of mario... governor andrew the slayer cuomo...
when will justice be served.
Dr Death, Governor Cuomo, after killing thousands in NY nursing homes by sending covid infected patients into them, is now saying vaccines will not be available in his state when the FDA approves them because he has to have his panel signs off on them to assure Trump is not rushing them to market. So , he now will delay the aged in nursing homes from getting vaccinated for political purposes. What does this jerk have against vulnerable elderly people?
Say their names!
As soon as they're dead they're his forever, voting-wise speaking...
If Joe Biden is John Gill, Governor Cuomo is Govenor Kodos.
Life imitates art!
Cuomo allowed confirmed positive staffers to continue working in their facilities until the policy was changed in mid-May.
I don’t know how he can sleep at night after doing what he did, THEN LYING about it and trying to blame everyone else but himself- NY- vote him out- what he did was unconscionable! literally 1000’s of people will NOT have their loved ones with htem at Thanksgiving this year as a direct result of his negligence OR his knowing indifference to human life-
Cuomo is a liar and probably honestly really believes his own lies.
So is this his attempt at blaming his underlings for misreading his policy?
Fedzilla relaxed the regs back in mid March.
Cuomo’s diktat sending patients back came about ten days after that.
And the immunity provisions in early April, in the new state budget.
Cuomo damn well knew what he was doing.
“What does this jerk have against vulnerable elderly people?”
Nothing except that the elderly are sucking up large amounts of money from the NY budget. Mom lives in NYS, and the elderly get many perks that cost a lot of money. Killing the elderly resulted in a better bottom-line number in the state budget.
And this is likely all about Medicaid costs.
It would be interesting to see what percentage of the patients sent back were dual-eligibles, on both Medicare and Medicaid.
Occam’s Razor: Cuomo finally told such an obscene whopper that even CNN was not comfortable trying to run cover for him.
