Its estimated 20% of local restaurants have been affected by the coronavirus, with hundreds of establishments closed and thousands laid-off.
A pizza shop in Hudson, New Hampshire, has been giving away free food since the spring, welcoming anyone that is hungry.
The sign outside Mickey's Pizza in Hudson says it all, "No money, no problem; Free slices if you need."
Tony and Elissa Nasser say they are here to help anyone who is in need.
The decision came after the two saw New Hampshire schools closing for the semester, and parents losing their jobs, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Anonymous donors have contributed to their free slice fund, and those who have benefitted from a free meal have written to the family.
While business has actually increased at the family's Hudson location, the Nassers two other pizza shops are struggling amid the pandemic.
One of them has seen business drop 80%, but they continue to give out free food at their New Hampshire location since they believe it is good to help others in a time of need.
The Nassers say they aren't sure how long they will continue their generous program, but they say as long as there is demand, they will help.
It is very cool of them to do this.

Who’s had a piece lately?
Ooo yummy!
This is unsustainable. You can’t give free stuff to everyone who shows up wanting free stuff. Business just doesn’t work that way.
This is the United States of America. Can we cast off the yoke of the past seven months and start acting like it? Please?

The material costs could be written off. If its going to spoil anyway, better to cook it and give it away than just toss it in the trash.
It’s a pretty good risk I think.
The business is hurting and liable to go under anyway. Might as well do something memorable. If they’re gonna go, go big. It’s counter intuitive but could either be a path thru the darkness or to demise. If they close their doors they’ll be missed. It’s as good a business plan as any.

*******
Kramer : It’s just a write off for them .
Jerry : How is it a write off ?
Kramer : They just write it off .
Jerry : Write it off what ?
Kramer : Jerry all these big companies they write off everything
Jerry : You don’t even know what a write off is .
Kramer : Do you ?
Jerry : No . I don’t .
Kramer : But they do and they are the ones writing it off .
Jerry : I wish I just had the last twenty seconds of my life back .
They are getting donations and big tips. This is a brilliant marketing strategy. Doom and gloom is not a way to spend your life.
“You Cannot ah put the cucumber on the Pizza!”
When I was a kid, a place called Brendas Rib Crib used to give away their leftover food from the night near closing time. I can see that working better/longer than giving away food all day long.
Interesting...I’m glad they are doing it. However, I won’t do my lawn mowing for free...
Well, I assume your clients don’t eat grass clippings.

DANG IT! You beat me to it!
Good work.

That’s probably how Mario’s pizza went out of business. I’d go to Famous Original Ray’s. Or Lorenzo’s. If you hold the parmesan shaker just right, you’ll be making the Van Buren Boys’ sign.
I had top score on Frogger. But there were no holes and I lost the scores.
