The Virginia Military Institutes Board of Visitors is gutless.
I wonder if they will also remove the plaque marking the classroom where he taught mathematics and cannon gunnery?
He taught his (8?) slaves to read, against Virginia law,
because he thought it was wrong not to permit people to read the scriptures.
But today’s black students are offended at his statue...
just as they are by Lincoln’s.
Why stop there?
They should deny their involvement in the Civil War, and that not a single alumni or cadet at the school EVER fought for the wicked Confederacy.
And anyone who went or taught at VMI before 1865 never owned a single slave, but if the did, they are hereby posthumously expelled or dismissed.
An army friend of mine, who is a VMI graduate, says the anti-VMI backers of Northam wants to close VMI and use the money for non-military related spending.
For every reaction, an equal but opposite reaction.
They’ll never know what hit em.
Burn in hell, VMI
Erwin Rommel was a Nazi field marshal. He got his promotions from a vile man, Adolf Hitler. And todays Germans are, of course, very sensitive about their Nazi past.
Yet Germans have no problem having the Field Marshal Rommel Barracks in their army today. So yeah, as PC as the Germans have become, we are worse.
Ill take it ...
Sad.
This fine institution used to produce warriors.

As an Alum of a brother military college, I must say I am stunned by this.
Jackson is such a deep part of their heritage that I cannot imagine VMI without him.
Just Wow.
Social justice warriors these days. How pathetic!
Unfortunately, the VMI Superintendant Gen. J.H. Binford Peay III is 80 years old and probably was not the best person at this time to fight the ‘woke’ culture. I just would have thought that the black alumni would have thought better of burning down the means to their successes because it’s all downhill from here. Like the Citadel.
Formal education was not easily obtained, but he attended school when and where he could. Much of Jackson's education was self-taught. He once made a deal with one of his uncle's slaves to provide him with pine knots in exchange for reading lessons; Thomas would stay up at night reading borrowed books by the light of those burning pine knots. Virginia law forbade teaching a slave, free black or mulatto to read or write; nevertheless, Jackson secretly taught the slave, as he had promised. Once literate, the young slave fled to Canada via the Underground Railroad.
More "My mind is already made up. Don't confuse me with the facts." The genocidal racist who started the movement to remove Jackson's statue should burn in hell.
Thank you Nikki Haley
But the wealthy, weak men on the VMI board share equal responsibility.
If President Trump does not win reelection you can kiss this country goodbye.
The Virginia Military Institute members decision reinforces the belief that a severe Testosterone shortage has inflicted some members of the military.
“Virginia law forbade teaching a slave, free black or mulatto to read or write; nevertheless, Jackson secretly taught the slave, as he had promised.”
If farm owners had really wanted to make sure someone could not learn to read they would have forced them to attend public schools.
