I don’t know about now, but when I was in the USAF (1987-1994), a demotion basically meant and end to your career. Even as an Airman. You simply did not want to get demoted. We had Army and Marines we knew who’d lose a stripe and get it back long before we could ever get the next stripe.
In the service I was amazed at the money, lives and power entrusted to us young men...
Now that I’m an old guy I’m even more amazed LOL!
