I would be pretty embarrassed to be a Georgia resident & voter by now.
Decades ago, I had an older coworker, older than me by thirty years, who was on one of the landing barges that unleashed US soldiers into a hell of enemy fire.
I asked him what he and the others felt at the time about storming the beach at Normandy.
He said, “we felt we were dead already.”
He never wanted to talk anymore about it. The only other thing he said was what I heard through others, “when death has surrounded you and all you have is one chance to fight, then it can only get better.”
