HUNDREDS of birds found dead on a street in Rome on New Year's Eve were scared to death by fireworks, animal rights campaigners have claimed.

It comes after a ban on fireworks in the city, introduced to protect people, animals, and heritage sites, went largely ignored....

...The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds says that there is "little evidence to suggest that fireworks harm wild birds or affect their conservation status".

More likely they breathed in some toxic gas.

If this were true it would have been happening every Fourth of July, New Years, and several other holidays for decades all over the planet. I am getting so tired of the press treating people as if we are stupid.

So it’s YOUR fault.

Many of us thought as much.

We aren't stupid, but the vast majority of people are.

The fireworks all over the world were to declare war on the lockdowns.

I was brought up with poor social skills. Things went downhill when I discovered that you can light a fart.

Some of them are just stunned. I can see panicked birds flying into things in the dark. I know where they could get a few thousand starlings, if they really want them.

I was an adult before I realized such a thing wasn’t some urban legend.

It didn’t change MY life as a result.

Some Italians eat songbirds and have been for centuries, they catch the birds in nets and cook the birds without cleaning. Not much extra protein running around Southern Italy, I guess.

In general I don’t like fireworks. Freaks the crap out of sensitive dogs and vets with PTSD.

There have been a few articles about seagulls guiding migrating birds into skyscrapers so they can feed on their carcasses in the morning.

Shocking, I know.

Just think of the seagulls as democrats.

Some birds migrate in huge flocks at night. Maybe they got a lucky shot and concussed a flock out of the air with a firework.

And lightning and thunder doesn’t scare birds why?

Yup, my neighbor lost their dog on July 4th. Years earlier I remember trying to calm our own dog down on that day.

I’ve heard that there’s some kind of red neck sedative to put in the dog bowl for that day but I don’t know what it is.

Songbirds are tasty. Japanese consider starlings a delicacy.

Starlings are an invasive species here in America so it’s open season on them.

I detect a fun business opportunity.

You waited until you were an adult to try lighting a fart? Man, you missed out on a lot. Not to mention that your dates probably weren’t impressed.
