Cruising carried well onto the 70’sThere was lots of crusin here in New York City during the disco-era 70s. However, it was mostly done by Italians in Brooklyn driving long new Caddies and Lincolns, blasting the latest Disco tunes.
"Crusin" nowadays, unfortunately, has a whole new meaning.

There was lots of crusin here in New York City
Francis Lewis and Cross Bay Blvd's in Queens. I remember my dad telling me Central Av in Yonkers was another hot spot in the 50's-60's.

I think you could blame the
cruising demise on the cell
phone.
Most kids today aren’t interested
in lots of chrome and high
horsepower. They just want a
kick-ass stereo and Facebook.

Mark Twain in Innocents Abroad describes Italians in Italy doing a form of cruising. In the early evening they would get dressed up and take anything with wheels on it and circle the town square. Cruising is in the bloodstream apparently.
