Know your Nautical terminology

chine
1. An angle in the hull.
2. A line formed where the sides of a boat meet the bottom.[2] Soft chine is when the two sides join at a shallow angle, and hard chine is when they join at a steep angle.


Fully rounded hulls will have a smooth rolling motion. Hard chined hulls, such as a PT boat, are easer to get up on a plane and are faster.
