I have been looking for some good chili that can be bought retail. There are scores of different brands, but most of those I’ve tried are way too salty, so salty, that I can’t finish the can. A few have had a more agreeable flavor, but most of those are too soupy, too runny.
Any suggestions?

I’m thinking I will probably just have to make my own.
Conduct another ‘experiment’ in my own kitchen.

Try Campbell’s Chunky Chili (it comes in both spicy and regular). It may only come with beans though, if you’re one of those who doesn’t like beans in your chili ...

People at my old VFW swear by “Texas brand chili” but I have not found it

If the chili is too salty, maybe just mix it with macaroni and make “chili mac”. If you cook the macaroni in unsalted water, the salt in the pasta will naturally dissolve in the water while you boil it, then when you drain it and mix it with the chili, the pasta will absorb some of the salt from the chili too and dilute it a bit.

It’s really hard to find anything decent already made. In my opinion, the best pre-made is found in the freezer section and it’s called Dolores Chili Brick. I like to use it for chili dogs. It’s make with beef hearts, so has a very beefy flavor.

In general, I just make my own, but I try to keep a couple of bricks in my freezer.
