My office — and others I hear about — is having completely pointless, almost-daily Zoom meetings. I think a lot of people, bosses particularly, are becoming addicted to the technology.
I use the technology constantly now. I hate it but I use it.
And when I’m on, I am often the only one with video. Don’t care. If other people are too bashful, lazy, or just don’t like to show their face, that is their business.
One of my professional strengths has been my face-to-face skills. I have banked on it my whole career, and I hate this crap, and I hate that we are forced to work this way. Of course, I am an open book, when I am angry, frustrated, or skeptical, it clearly shows. After one particularly contentious call, my boss was laughing at me later, and he said every single emotion shows clearly on my face. It is funny, but I am fine with that too. I am no poker player, and my communications with people are straightforward and open. I won’t do it any other way, and most people I interact with respond fine to that.
To my face, at least...:)
But that is how it is. So I make the best of it.
That said, if any man I knew put makeup on for any reason (except being filmed in a professional setting for livelihood purposes) I certainly wouldn’t think very highly of them as a man. And professionally, I would have serious reservations about their abilities.
One more point on this-I see it as an ongoing assault on masculinity in this country. The pusses and wimps in the media and society at large are doing everything they can to emasculate men.
Its Orwellian/Brazil type idiocy.
