There were two documented cases of blindness (and probably more) from 'shine from the East Tennessee area that caused blindness.
Seems the old boys discovered that battery acid improved the swiftness of converting the mash and that running it thru old radiators that had been made with lead solder cooled it much more efficiently.
The authorities were never sure if the 'shine was run before or after they were drained of anti-freeze.
Then there was the guy from Memphis that stole several 55 gallon barrels of wood-grain alcohol from a warehouse and rejugged it as his own concoction.
Believe or not, the damned fool actually drank some of his own "makin's" and still wouldn't stop selling it as primo stuff.
