I was in Seattle in the late 80s and loved it. I met a few people who could tell I was visiting and their eyes would sort of narrow a little and they’d ask, “Are you from California?” and I’d say, “No” and they’d sigh and say, “Good. We don’t need more people from California.”
Here it is 30+ years later, and I’d say Seattle and Portland have received more than enough people from California.
It is hard to assimilate large groups from other places that have their own gravitational pull.
(Born and raised in Oregon, and not only Portland, but the entire state does have far too many people from California).
