I always hated that show. I hated Bea Arthur with a passion, and hated that we had to act like Rue McLanahan was sexy just because she had a showy rack. Betty White’s St. Olav stories and Estell Getty only partly made up for them.

The producers’ original desire was to have Betty White play Blanche and Rue McClanahan to play Rose, but the actresses had played similar roles in the past and didn’t want to be typecast, so their roles were switched.
