Hmm. Thats not bad for a week, for a comm line in the desert.
For a once in a year thing, I agree.
That and tires are made so much better these days.
I dont keep score :)
Very few peoples screen names i remember having disagreements with here, save a few chronic ones that seem to troll everything i post
Nevertheless, I will mark the date :)
Back in the '60s I took the family out to the Baker, CA to work the old Tonopah/Tidewater RR with my metal detector. All the tracks were gone, but the ties remained, except in one area where some guy built a small cabin out of them - 60 years later it still reeked of creosote.
The two kids were running all over the desert. I was SO intent working the area, I hardly noticed a slight rise until I topped it and nearly went down a BLACK hole about eight feet in diameter. In panic, I yelled for the wife to corral the kids before they galloped over to me and fell down the shaft. I dropped a stone and it took a full two seconds before I heard the sound of it hitting tin. You could dump somebody down there and no one would EVER find them.
No treasure, but I found a bunch of No. 10 tins of food that looked like someone had hit them with an axe on top to pour out the food. Found a plate from some piece of machinery that was patented in 1891.
Reminds me of This one at 1:04.
