It is “Ring of Fire” for me. I was 8 or 9. Funny how you remember things like that.
Your response was perfect. 🤡
0bamaz momma was named Stanley.
Didn’t know Shel Silverstein wrote the song and did the original version. Always loved his songs (Bury Me in My Shades, Freakin’ at the Freakers’ Ball, Sara Cynthia Sylvia Stout, etc., but boy he was not much of a singer.
Until the 1900s, Shirley was a boys name, as were Aubrey, Carroll, Ashley, Lindsay. 400 years ago Douglas was a girl's name for a while.
Maury Povitch’s brother was Shirley Povitch. He was a sports writer.
First heard this as a 12 year old kid “camping out” in the summer of 1969 with my cousin in his backyard in San Diego. We had a little transistor radio with us and the song was being played on the local radio station for the first time. We thought it was funniest thing we ever heard and speculated what the bleeped out word might have been. We also woke up with chiggers from sleeping on the grass under our makeshift tent. Good memories.
Dad didn’t smile much, prolly a result of having me for a son, but when I looked over at him at the end of that song he had a huge grin on his face.
Tonto was polish? Did the Lone Ranger know?
One and the same. And Shepherd's TV version of The Christmas Story isn't as shall we say colorful as the book or books it came from LOL. It is part of several short stories actually. The dad swore like crazy and smoked like a freight train. Just imagine Chicago suburbs 1930's. In the book no one dared talk to the old man until after his second cup of coffee and a couple Lucky Strikes were in him. BTW Silverstien also wrote Loretta Lynn's hit "Ones on the way"
“...the same Jean Shepherd who wrote “A Christmas Story”.”
the same Gent.
Now Silent Key known as W9QWA and K2ORS. Some other in-between call signs. For all my childhood scanning late night AM radio, never heard him. First awareness of Jean Shepherd was on a taped introduction to Amateur Radio.
