Joe Biden’s presidency offered hope for extensive change in the nation. One of the many measures that we looked forward to was the American Rescue Plan. Many proposals were added to the plan; however, a proposal to increase the minimum wage to $15 was left out.
Senator Bernie Sanders offered an amendment to the bill that would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025; however, the amendment was voted down by a 58 to 42 count where the Senate parliamentarian determined the wage hike did not qualify under Senate rules.
President Biden’s response to this was less than ideal for who we consider to be the most progressive president we have had. On the campaign trail, Biden consistently voiced his support for increasing the minimum wage. Even after the election when Bernie Sanders asked if Biden supported a $15 federal minimum wage, the latter responded positively.
Democrats who now have a majority could have passed the bill through budget reconciliation, but this, unfortunately, failed to occur. Furthermore, Biden has executive authority and could have put in more effort to make do on his promises.

58 no votes ot 58 yes votes but not able to get 60 for cloture?
What are we...pikers? Why not $150.00 per hour minimum wage...or $1,500.00/hour? If we are going to promise Valhalla...let’s darn well deliver!!!
$15/hr seems reasonable.
So politicians lied?? Imagine that
$15 seems reasonable to you...I bet that means you don’t have a payroll to meet.
Simple truth: If you are worth $15, someone will pay it to you...
This argument is so moldy...tons and tons of economic studies show this is a horrid idea...why do you think McDonalds is using computers to take orders??? Literally 10% of the population cannot be trained to do simple, repetitive tasks...
If you want to eliminate entry level jobs where unskilled people can learn and perhaps better themselves, just price their labor out of the market.
I can’t even believe this is still a debate...
I am 78 years old and a practicing Economist until retiring four years ago...
I don’t give one single F about any of that or about much of anything at this point to be honest. But i do care about lying scumbag politicians. They promised it. I think they should keep their promises. I think we should call them out when they break their promises.
In the Progressive scales, one tortured-for-life Derek Chauvin is greater than a whole year’s worth of $15/hr minimum wage.
Suck it up, snowflakes. As my son used to say when he wanted to listen to Bieber during dinner, no Justin, no peas.
Derek Chauvin is a distraction. Politicians love distractions. They take the attention away from their many many broken promises.
“Democrats who now have a majority could have passed the bill through budget reconciliation, but this, unfortunately, failed to occur. “
No, it was never meant to pass. They don’t care about you or any of us as long as they keep enriching themselves.
Withy a few exceptions, I think they’re all lying scumbags democrats, republicans, they just lie to us to get us to vote for them and then enrich themselves. I despise most all of them. There’s a couple that are all right but they’re hopelessly outnumbered by the lying, manipulating, self serving aholes. and we just keep voting for them like a bunch of chumps because democracy.
In other words, free shit, forget what is right or wrong...just get yours.
YOU AND YOUR ATTITUDE IS KILLING THIS COUNTRY...YOUR ARE A SELFISH NARCISSIST...GROW UP
I shed blood in Vietnam...you weren’t worth it.
When I get Vietnam vets as patients, I will bend over backwards for them-just like a WW2 vet man. If you’re ever my patient, I’ll fight for you even if you think you hate me. I’ll have your back brother.
How about Korean War vets ?
.
Absolutely. Are you kidding me? I’m former infantry man. I have proudly taken care of WW2 vets, Vietnam war vets and Korean war vets. I don’t care about much but I do care about my brothers soldiers and I don’t care what branch they served in.
