Our fast food chicken sandwich rankings, so far
the takeout ^

It has been two years since customers were first introduced to the Popeyes chicken sandwich. Since then, every other major chain in America has been scrambling to release its own version of the popular menu item—to varying degrees of success. To be clear, most fast food joints have been offering chicken-based sandwiches for decades, but many have stepped up their game since 2019 by focusing on four basic components: thick and juicy breaded chicken breast, pickles, mayo and/or spicy sauce, and a pillowy brioche bun. Judging on those attributes, The Takeout has reviewed the major players’ new chicken sandwiches one by one. Here are the rankings so far.

Had the KFC a while back. Mehhh. Could be better. Haven’t tried Popeyes yet. Had McDonald’s and Burger King and Wendy’s. All about the same. Any suggestions.

I like the Wendy’s grilled chicken sandwich, but not the breaded version.

I know it’s not a “sandwich” but it’s great...

Jack in the Box has a pretty decent grilled chicken sandwich that costs less than two bucks.

The KFC ones are new the past couple months.

They no longer have the one they had for years.

No one has mentioned Chik-Fil-A...In my opinion, for good reason...The chicken sandwich I ate there once had less taste than old cardboard...

No fast food chain can ever top what the average person can make at home.

My favorite chicken recipe is to take 2-4 chicken leg quarters, season them with spices of your choice, and put them in a cast iron skillet, skin side down, for 17 minutes on medium heat.

Then flip the chicken over and place the cast iron skillet in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes.

Just 32 minutes to perfection with minimal prep.

The chicken will fall right off the bone every time.

The wife and I finally got a chance to eat a Popeye's (non-spicy) chicken sandwich. It was good, but nothing to justify the mania when the sammich first came out. I'd eat it again, but just wasn't impressed.

[Disclosure: I still think the Chick-fil-A sandwich is better...but haven't eaten there since they went Woke.]

Isn’t EVERY meat sandwich at Subway (except the tuna) a CHICKEN sandwich?

So many options.

McDonald’s is the worst. But KFC isn’t far ahead of McDonalds.

In my area, Wendy’s and then Popeye’s is the best I can get.

I am looking forward to lunch today. I am making a Ruben; delicious corned beef, oozing swiss cheese that is crispy on the sides, enveloped with homemade sauerkraut and dressing, on rye bread with caraway seeds made with pickle juice, all grilled in butter to toasty and dripping perfection.

Of course, I had a healthy alternative to choose from. I chose the Ruben over a Liverwurst sandwich on rye, with fried onions, a slice of a ripe tomato and a good German mustard. That will be lunch tomorrow.
