Pete holds nearly every ncaa career scoring record. He scored 3,667 points (in 3 years because Freshmen weren't eligible back then). That is over 44 points/game for 3 years. Neither the career total or average will ever be even approached. Ever.
Dale Brown dug out the old game charts and proved that he would have averaged 57 w/ a 3 point line. I would surmise that average would be well over 60 simply because he would have taken (and made) so many more 3 pointers if there was a line there.
He averaged 24+ in the nba for 10 seasons, but was always hurt. I'm sure there were more than a handful of games where he barely played. In addition, there was no rule against hand checking back then. You weren't allowed to palm the ball and take 5 steps and call it a "hop step". And again, no 3 point line.
Imagine him growing up KNOWING there would be a 3 point line? He would have been even better from outside.
Best ball handler the league has ever seen. Bar none. Watch his ball handling and passing drills (one thing youtube is good for). They're scary good.
I was out antiquing with my girlfriend on a Saturday, and the shop we were in had a small black and white TV.
I was transfixed.
Not only was the guy the best ball handler and best outside shooter I had ever seen, he had really long hair, which was rare for athletes at that time.
